A saga of dirt beneath the red carpet where everyone is self-centred, transactional and tainted. Jubilee is set during Indian Independence, when film studios were the power centre with their control of stars and everything else.   Roy Talkies owners Srikant Roy and Sumitra Devi are the front runners of the industry and set the agenda. Their new movie introduces a new actor Jamshed Khan but there are lots of twists and turns as they fail to bring him on the big screen. Amit Trivedi Musical Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan Touch Refreshing Love Story Hard Hitting One-Liners Fresh Casting GenZ World Anurag Kashyap is back with a smart and contemporary next generation love story. Set in Dalhousie and London, the film captures two parallel stories of naievete and confused teenagers - played by same actors. The characters have are fans of artist DJ Mohabbat, played smartly by Vicky Kaushal. The Dalhousie track features fierce school girl Amrita spending time with a simpleton Yaqub. Sneaking out for a concert unleashes a storm that they did not imagine. Londoner rich brat Ayesha is besotted by shy DJ Harmeet, who rebuffs her. She tries too hard to win him and he lands up in a big trouble without any fault of his. Apart from DJ Mohabbat, both couples are victims of patriarchy, societal pressure. Love Jihad, homophobia, social media and teenage innocence are important backdrops. Alaya F shines and does full justice to both her contrasting characters. Karan Mehta’s rawness works to his advantage. Vicky Kaushal continues from his earlier avatar in Anurag Kashyap - Amit Trivedi gem Manmarziyaan but his soliloquies fall flat. Loved the references to Gulzar, Ghalib and Amrita Pritam - like Rumi in Imtiaz Ali movies. Modern relationships and real connections shun labels. Love is the only anti-dote to hate. Amit Trivedi’s music is wonderful and it slowly grows on you. Mohabbat Se Kranti, Duniya and other songs are beautiful with quirky and Hinglish lyrics to impress GenZ. But this is no DevD or Manmarziyaan. Almost Pyaar is an impressive movie despite its flaws.
