Book Review : The Go – Giver

Recently, I read ‘The Go – Giver‘ by Bob Burg and John David Mann. As suggested by the cover, it is a little story about a powerful business idea. And what is that powerful business idea?

Giving !

Yes. Giving. Give more to receive more. Add more value to get more money. Add value faster to get value faster.

The authors present this central concept through protagonist Joe’s story. The parable is simple and the characters and story is predictable. However, it lives a good impression and sets you thinking. Hmm. This is special!

The book is a good collection of the classical ideas. These principles are presented in form of The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success.

1. The Law of Value:
Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

2. The Law of Compensation:
Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

3. The Law of Influence
Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.

4. The Law of Authenticity
The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

5. The Law of Receptivity
The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

The book also covers The Law of Attraction (The Secret is the best adaption) and the ‘Survive-Save-Serve’ Concept.

I agree to the ‘The Go-Giver’ snapshot of the book
Imparted with wit and grace, The Go-Giver is a heartwarming and inspiring tale that brings new relevance to the old proverb “give and you shall receive.”

If you want to read a short, quick and easy going inspirational book in simple English, try ‘The Go – Giver’.

Guru Gyan : Bill Gates – Warren Buffet

Last week, I watched the telecast of ‘Go Back To School’ program on NDTV Profit. It featured the legendary icons of our time – Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. The college graduates asked them questions over a period of one hour. Their answers brought that the rules for greatness and outstanding success in life are simple.

Here is what I noted after listening to Warren Buffet and Bill Gates:

1. Follow your passion.

2. All of us make mistakes. Don’t worry. Don’t repeat the mistake.

Bill Gates said that he did not anticipate rise of Google/Search. Warren Buffet sold a stock and it rose crazily after.

3. Get The Best of Out People. Invest in people and trust them.

4. Learn To Say No – Best Time Management Advice.

Bill Gates dedicates two weeks for “thinking”.

5. Invest in Public Speaking Course. Read Faster.

6. Share with others. Equity is an very important issue in the world.

Warren Buffet and Bill Gates mentioned that they had got lucky tickets in life. Their thoughts were inspiring and informative. Though these thoughts look very simple, only few understand the wisdom behind these simple principles.

The iPhone Is Here!

The much awaited iPhone is finally here in India. This is what all Apple fans and tech geeks were waiting for!

However, the first dampener has been the extremely high price – Rs 31000 and Rs 36000. We understand Apple’s Price Skimming Strategy. We also understand that the phone is not bundled with a revenue plan as India’s ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) are one of the lowest in the world. However, despite these facts, the price is high.

India is a great opportunity. Nokia and LG have been smart marketers to understand the Indian consumer’s value for money approach and created fortunes. C K Prahlad’s ‘Bottom Of Pyramid’ strategy works for the great Indian middle class as well.

Apple can view India as a great opportunity. Had iPhone between priced at less than Rs 15,000, it would changed the market. It would also have led to growth of iPhone Applications and unique Indian innovations around it.

iPhone debuted yesterday and the media is cluttered with news on iPhone. Here are refreshing and interesting notes on iPhone:
