Indian Of The Year – 2010

It is that time of the year – list, ratings, rankings, best of 2010 etc. Movies, Actors, People, Events, Incident…

Time Magazine has named Facebook Mark Zuckberg has the ‘Person of the year 2010’ !

Personally, I thought it would be Wikileak’s Julian Assange. Maybe Time did not want Federal Action against it !

Who would be the Indian Of The Year 2010?

Nitish Kumar?
Saina Nehwal?
Sushil Kumar?
Salman Khan?

According to me, it has to be Saina Nehwal – bringing pride, happiness and hope to Indian sports and Indians. It was a year when she and other Indian sports persons ensured that non-cricket sports got their due and recognition. They allowed us to think about the sporting side of CWG. Sania is currently No.2 in the world. Hope she does not go the Sania way !

She won three Super Series tournaments this year: Singapore, Indonesia and most recently in Hong Kong. She won the gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi..

I read somewhere that, In another life Saina Nehwal would have been a Spartan warrior, her fighting spirit always helps her win on the D-days..:)

  2. Besides, Who could be Info-Neer of the year 2010 ?

I’ll second your opinion and vote for Saina.

However as I see, there are 2 questions here – Who ‘should’ win and who ‘would’ win. Undoubtedly, Saina stands to get the most votes for who ‘should’ win. But the answer to who ‘would’ win question is a bit tricky. I doubt if Sports will get to win over Politics & Bollywood! And talking about Sports, we are talking about something other than Cricket here (by the way, Sachin too stands a chance by crossing a few milestones this year).

So just need to keep the fingers crossed!

PS – I loved your comment on ‘the Sania way’ (including the pun)

Hemal – I liked your ‘Should’ and ‘Would’ approach. It happens in our politics too. Let us see – I guess the real victory of Saina is that the whole India thinks she ‘Should’ win. Respect can never be bought – she has really earned it. Leadership is not a designation or title, it is action.

Let HR Decide. In my previous company, we had the annual awards for entire team. Some thing like TV Channels have these days. Vodafone had its own awards for employees to motivate them. Salman Khan had come to give away those awards. Imagine the high of getting an award from Sallu. 🙂

“Leadership is not a designation or title, it is action.”

i guess, we can further refine it as … it is action that produces followers….after all its all about Leader and being led.

  8. Why you added ‘Salman Khan’ even in list? 🙂
